We were thrilled to be instructed to remodel and renovate this large detached house in Wimbledon for a previous client. We had worked with this lovely client on three previous projects and so we knew how much fun it would be.
The house had great proportions and the rooms were good shapes, however the layout needed tweaking to make it work for a young family.
We knocked through the kitchen and dining room to create a large open-plan kitchen, dining area and sitting area - this then had the benefit of bringing daylight in to the room on both sides. Even on the darkest winter day this is now an attractive, luminous room, where the family spends most of their time.
The garage was much too big for the client's purposes, so we divided it up, making part of it into a study, part a large utility and part of it a storage area. Now every inch is fully used and feels like part of the house.
We then knocked through from the master bedroom into what had been a bedroom and small bathroom, to create a full dressing room and a magnificent en-suite bathroom. A distinct challenge was bringing the 3 metre high green marbled tiles up to the first floor! Happily we were able to build a frame for them and raise them up through a hole made in the kitchen ceiling for the purpose - this is the sort of thing to plan for at the start of the project rather than the end!
The loft was a tangle of tiny rooms and strange angles, so we knocked out all interior walls and re-modelled the whole space to suit the client. the result was a very large guest room, a smaller twin guest room and a super steam room which gets a lot of use in the depths of winter.
Choosing colours was a delight in this house - we had fun with every room, especially the loft rooms, where we incorporated pinks, blues and even a deep yellow.
The client was delighted with her newly-imagined home, full of light, colour and warmth. We would love to work with them again although we can't imagine them ever wanting to leave!
